Flip McCoin - Version 2.010

09/02/10  The big college football game this weekend is the Labor Day matchup between Boise State and Virginia Tech. I have a shiny 2010 Roosevelt dime minted in Denver. Heads it's the Broncos, tails it's the Hokies...and heads it is. Take Boise in a pick-em affair at Landover.

09/09/10  Congratulations to Boise on their big win last week! Let's take a shot at an NFL game. Arizona is a 3½ point favorite at St. Louis. Our coin is a 1997 Lincoln penny minted in Denver. Heads it's the Cardinals, tails it's the Rams. And it's...heads. Go Cardinals!!!

09/16/10  So far, so good. The coin is 2-0. Let's take a shot at the over/under in the Florida-Tennessee game. Heads it's over, tails it's under. We're using a 1987 Washington quarter minted in Denver. And it's...heads - go over 45. MTFBWY!

09/23/10  Wow! The coin has been correct three times in a row. Can we make it four? We're using a Roosevelt dime minted in Denver in 2005. A big college game that everyone's been waiting for is Oregon State at Boise State. Heads it's the Beavers, tails it's the Broncos. Here we go...tails. Take Boise minus 18.

09/30/10  Darn, I knew laying 18 would be too much to overcome. Oh, well. The coin is now 3-1. Let's try our luck at an NFL total. The Jets are visiting Buffalo and the over/under is about 36½. I have a Washington quarter minted in 1979. Can't tell where. Philadelphia, Denver or San Francisco. Mint mark is not easy to read. If I had to guess, I'd say Philly. Heads it's over, tail it's under...tails! Go defense!!!

10/07/10  Two losses in a row and we're now 3-2. Our coin today is a 1987 Washington quarter minted in Denver. Missouri is a 12 point home favorite against Colorado. Heads Missouri. Tails Colorado. The coin is in the air and it is heads! Go Tigers!

10/14/10  God bless the Missouri Tigers. Their win over Colorado raises the season record to 4-2. This week's play will be the Atlanta-Philadelphia NFL game. The Eagles are favored by 3. Our coin is a Jefferson nickel minted in 2006 in Denver. Heads Atlanta. Tails Philadelphia. It is heads. Go Falcons!

10/21/10   Last week's disaster makes The Coin 4-3 this season. The 49ers are at Carolina in a dull NFL matchup. Heads Carolina. Tails San Francisco. A Roosevelt dime minted in 1994 in Denver decides our fate. It's heads. Take the Panthers minus a field goal. GIGIG

10/28/10   Last week's game ended in a push so we're now at 4-3-1. A big SEC this week has the Ole Miss Rebels hosting the undefeated Auburn Tigers AKA War Eagles AKA Plainsmen. Our coin this week is one of those state quarters. This one was minted in Denver in 2007 and honors the great state of Utah, the "Crossroads Of The West." Heads its Ole Miss. Tails it's Auburn. And it's tails! Take the Tigers and lay the 7 points. MTFBWY!

11/04/10   Thanks to Auburn, the coin's season record is now 5-3-1. Flip is going north of the border to the CFL for this week's pick. Montreal is a 6 point choice at home against Toronto. I suppose I should use a Canadian coin but we'll just have to settle with one from Great Britain, or United Kingdom, or England, or whatever they call it. There's Queen Elizabeth on the obverse and 5 New Pence on the reverse. If it's Liz it's Toronto, if not Montreal. And it's Liz! Go Argonauts!

11/11/10   The Toronto Argonauts blasted the Montreal Alouettes! 30-4! The coin is now an impressive 6-3-1 on the season, easily the best record on the InsaneGambler.com website. Our coin this week is a Washington quarter minted way back in 1967. Where? Who knows? Who cares? The Houston Texans are visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars with the total a lofty 49½. Heads it's over, tails it's under. It's heads! Let's score some points!

11/18/10  Hail Mary! David Garrard's last-second pass put the game over and sent Flip McCoin's season record to an amazing 7-3-1. For this week's game we're going to Philadelphia where Michael Vick and the Eagles are hosting the Giants. I've got a Washington quarter minted somewhere, probably Denver, in 1995. Heads it's Giants, tails it's Eagles. Here's the flip - tails! Go Eagles minus 3!

11/25/10  Man, the Coin is smokin' hot. 8-3-1. That's 72 freaking percent! Let's take a shot at the Tampa Bay at Baltimore game. We have a Washington quarter minted in Denver in 1984. Heads the Buccaneers. Tails the Ravens. It's tails! Go with Baltimore -7½.

12/02/10  A brutal ½ point loss last week puts us at 8-4-1. Our coin this week is a Jefferson nickel minted in Philadelphia in 2008. Our game is Carolina at Seattle, with the Seahawks favored by 5½ points. Heads it's Seattle. Tails it's Carolina. Heads it is! Go Seahawks!!!

12/09/10  A big win by Seattle moves the Coin's season record to an impressive 9-4-1. It's the annual Army-Navy game. The Midshipmen are favored by 7½ points. Heads it's Navy. Tails it's Army. We have a 2001 Roosevelt dime that was minted in San Francisco. Here's the flip...heads! Anchors Aweigh!

12/16/10  Flip McCoin admits to being embarrassed to have a record of 10-4-1 simply by flipping a coin. There are other handicappers on this site who are burning the midnight oil, crunching numbers, and studying all sorts of trends to come up with winners. And all I have to do is flip a coin. Hey, IMSTBT. This week's game will be the Saints and the Ravens. The total is 43½. Heads it's under. Tails it's over. Our coin is a Lincoln penny, minted in Denver in 1984. Here's the flip...tails. Take the over!

12/23/10  The Coin continues his winning ways and now boasts a record of 11-4-1. LTGTR Let's take a shot this week at a game that is about as low on the totem pole as you can get. Toledo is a 1½ point pick over Florida International in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Really! What are the TV ratings on this one? 0.1? We have a Jefferson nickel minted in Denver in 2008. Heads it's the Rockets. Tails it's the Golden Panthers. Here's the flip...tails! Take FIU plus 1½.

12/30/10  Man, I made fun of the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl and that was one of the best games of the year. It didn't look good with FIU trailing 24-7 but never underestimate the power of the Coin! The season record now stands at an incredible 12-4-1! This week's coin is a Jefferson nickel minted in Denver in 2006. Our game is the Minnesota Vikings at the Detroit Lions. Heads it's MIN. Tails it's DET. And the flip is...tails. Roar, Lions, Roar!

01/03/11  The Coin won his fifth game in a row thanks to the Lions beating the Vikings. Hmmm...the pick was made in 2010 but the game was played in 2011. Is our 2010 record 13-4-1 or is it 12-4-1 and 1-0 in 2011? Let's see. Hey, just flip a coin! Any old coin will do. Here's a nickel. Heads it's 2010. Tails it's 2011. And heads it is! Flip McCoin ends 2010 with a handicapping record of 13-4-1, just by flipping a coin!!!
