2010 Predictions by Eduardo Lorenzo Capitan

Week 1   There are three games on this weekend's schedule that look good.

Arizona is a 16 point favorite at Toledo. Arizona has a decent chance of winning the Pac-10 this season while Toledo has a decent chance of being...Toledo. Look for the Wildcats to stomp the Rockets. W

The UCONN Huskies travel to the Big House to take on the Michigan Wolverines. The Huskies are getting three points and EL Capitan has a hunch they might just win this game straight up. L

Finally, the Cincinnati Bearcats head west to take on the the Fresno State Bulldogs. EL Capitan has a soft spot for the Dawgs, as they always seem to come through when the money is on the line. Look for the home crowd to help Fresno easily cover the 2½ point spread.  W

Week 2   We started off the season by winning two of three games. Muy bueno!

The Houston Cougars are hosting the Texas-El Paso Miners. Look for Heisman hopeful Case Keenum to light up the scoreboard and cover the 21 point spread. W

Georgia is a 3-point dog at South Carolina. Look for the Bulldogs to win straight up in a hard-nosed affair. L

After being shocked at home by Jacksonville State, the Ole Miss Rebels will visit Tulane as 21 point favorites. Look for the Rebels to bounce back and win big. L

Pac-10 action has the Stanford Cardinal visiting the UCLA Bruins. The oddsmakers have the Bruins a 6½ point favorite. WUWT? EL Capitan has Stanford winning this game with ease! W

Week 3   Last week's 2-2 split moves our season record to 4-3.

Georgia is a 2 point favorite at home against Arkansas. EL Capitan looks for the Dawgs to make up for last week's loss to South Carolina. L

Ball State is getting a whopping 16½ points on the road versus Purdue. We can't resist the points here. Go with the Cardinals.  W

The USC Trojans are a 12 point road favorite against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota. USC was unimpressive in its win last week over Virginia but the Gophers were even worse in a home loss to South Dakota. Take the Trojans and lay the 12 points. L

Nebraska visits the great Northwest to take on Jake Locker and the Washington Huskies. The Huskers are favored by a field goal but ELC says it should be more. A lot more. Take Nebraska in a romp. W

Week 4   A second straight 2-2 week moves the season record to 6-5.

Virginia Tech is a 3½ favorite on the road at Boston College. The Hokies are too good to be 1-2. Lay the points for an easy win. W

Army is visiting Duke and is getting 6½ points. Army ain't all that hot but Duke is terrible. Take the Black Knights of the Hudson. W

Washington State is a huge underdog at home versus USC. EL Capitan can't resist all those points. Take the Cougars plus 22. L

Nevada has been quite impressive in the early going. They're a 4½ point pick at BYU. Go with the Pack. W

LSU is hosting West Virginia in a night game which is always tough for the visiting team. Take the Bayou Bengals minus 9½. L

Week 5   The season record now stands at 9-7.

Oklahoma takes on Texas in the Red River Rumble. The Longhorns were shocked at home by UCLA. Look for the Sooners to continue their misery. Take Oklahoma minus 3½. W

LSU disappointed last week by not covering versus WVU. EL Capitan demands they pay him back with a big win over Tennessee. Take LSU minus 16½. L

Calling all lumbermen!!! Boise State is laying a whopping 43½ points at New Mexico State. Hold your breath and take the Broncos to cover! W

Had a bad day? There's nothing like a late game in Hawaii to get even. Take Louisiana Tech plus 8½. L

Week 6   The season record now stands at 11-9.

Baylor visits Texas Tech in what figures to be a high scoring affair. EL Capitan goes with one of his favorite teams, the Red Raiders, to cover a 1½ point spread. W

Michigan, led by QB Denard Robinson, has impressed on offense this season. Alas, their defense has been just as impressively bad. Look for Michigan State to come to the Big House and walk away with a win, or at least a cover of the 4½ point spread. W

Oregon State visits the desert to take on a powerful Arizona squad. Look for the Wildcats to pour it on and cover the 8½ points. L

Week 7   The season record now stands at 13-10. Viva EL Capitan!!!

The Pitt Panthers travel to Syracuse and are favored by 2½ points. Take the Orange to pull off the upset. L

The Miami Hurricanes are a 15 point road favorite versus the Duke Blue Devils. Look for the Canes to cover easily. L

One of EL Capitan's favorite teams this year is the Auburn Tigers. Look for them to prevail as a 3½ point pick at home against Arkansas in what should be a high-scoring affair. W

Week 8   EL Capitan is now 14-12.

A disappointing Penn State team travels to Minnesota. Look for Joe Pa's boys to turn things around and cover the 8½ point spread. W

In ACC action, Clemson is a 4 point pick at home versus Georgia Tech. Take the Tigers to score an easy win at Death Valley. W

Missouri is a 3 point dog at home against Oklahoma in a battle of unbeatens. EL Capitan says go with the home team. W

San Diego State is a whopping 24 point road favorite against New Mexico. Cross your fingers and lay the lumber! L

Week 9   EL Capitan went 3-1 last week and is now 17-13. That's more like it!

There are some really big games this week but Clemson at Boston College isn't one of them. No matter - you can make as much money on a small game as you can on a big one. Take the Eagles plus 7.  W

An undefeated Michigan State team travels to Iowa. Bad mistake, Sparty. Go with the Hawkeyes minus 6½. W

EL Capitan, as usual, loves the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Take the 7 points on the road at Texas A&M.  L

UNLV is getting 34½ at home against TCU. That is hard to resist. Go Rebels! L

Week 10   Last week's 2-2 record moves EL Capitan to 19-15.

The Florida Gators travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Gators are a 14½ point choice and EL Capitan looks for them to cover easily. W

Tulsa is all pumped up after knocking off Notre Dame at South Bend. The Rice Owls should provide no problem. Take the Golden Hurricane to cover the 17 point spread. W

Tulane is getting 10½ points at home against Southern Mississippi. Take the dog! L

Week 11   The 2-1 record moves the season mark to 21-16. Muy bueno!

The Miami Hurricanes will deliver a spanking to the Wramblin' Wreck of Georgia Tech. Take the Canes -2½. W

Auburn will continue its undefeated ways with a beatdown of Georgia. Take the Tigers -7½. W

Mississippi State is getting 13 points at Alabama. Take the Bulldogs to cover.  L

Arizona is a 4 point favorite at home against USC. Lay the points. Go Wildcats! Bear down! L

Week 12   The season record is now 23-18 after last week's 2-2 split.

Friday night action has Boise State hosting Fresno State. The Broncos are 29 point favorites but that should be no problem as the Broncos will bo out to impress the pollsters and the computers. Take the Broncos to cover. W

Wake Forest is getting 14 points at home against Clemson. Take the home team and if they lose, you can call me Deacon Blue. L

Another ACC game has Virginia Tech traveling south to Miami. Look for the Hokies to come up big and win as a 2 point favorite. W

Week 13   A 2-1 mark last week moves us to 25-19.

In a game of no national significance, Indiana is a 4 point underdog at Purdue. Take the Boilermakers and lay the points. L

Maryland is at home and getting 2 points against North Carolina State. Huh? Wrong favorite says ELC. Take the Terps! W

UNLV is getting 24 points at San Diego State. Go Rebels! L

Week 14   A 1-2 mark last week lowers the season record to 26-21.

Believe it or not, Connecticut has a chance to go to a BCS game if they win at South Florida. The Huskies are getting 2 points. Huh? Another wrong favorite? Take UCONN and the points. W

Oregon and Oregon State square off in the Civil War. The Beavers are getting 16½ points. Take them and run. L

Week 15   The season record is now 27-22 after last week's 1-1 split.

EL Capitan has lots of ancestors who have served in the Navy. Our pick this week has nothing to do with handicapping. We're going with our roots. Take the Naval Academy to cover the 7½ point spread versus the Cadets from West Point. W

FINAL   Navy's easy win last week puts our season record at 28-22, a solid 56 percent. Guess what? We're done for the year. Why? Aren't there many more bowl games to select? True, but EL Capitan freely admits to not doing too well in bowl games. My frustration peaked a few years back when Ohio State took on Florida in the BCS title game. EL Capitan loved the Buckeyes. I spent weeks convincing anyone and everyone that they were going to roll the Gators. I had no doubt whatsoever that Ohio State was the correct play. And what happened? Quite possibly the worst team performance in a championship game in the history of college football, that's what happened.

The game started out great with Ted Ginn Jr. running the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. Woo-hoo! But it was all downhill after that. Ginn was hurt while celebrating and Tim Tebow and the Gators roared back to win 41-14. Ohio State had a grand total of 82 yards of total offense. Buckeye QB Troy Smith, that season's Heisman Trophy winner, was 4-for-14 for 35 yards. Jim Tressel has done a great job with the Buckeyes, but whatever he did for this game was an epic fail. This game was almost four years ago and EL Capitan is still smarting from the dismal outcome. So, we'll call it quits and settle for our 28-22 record. [IG: Well done, ELC. We look forward to having you back in 2011!]
